Miniature Masterworks: Frank Crescente

Frank Crescente creates miniature chandeliers and once built a model of the Titanic’s grand staircase to properly showcase his exquisite lighting fixtures. With a background in architecture and interior design, Crescente made 1:12 scale models for designers and clients before entering the fine-scale miniature world in 2000.

Crescente is one of more than sixty artists participating in Miniature Masterworks, September 15-17, 2017.

Miniature Masterworks: Masako Sharra

Masako Sharra is attending Miniature Masterworks as an Emerging Artist, a special designation recognizing new and rising talent in fine-scale miniature making. After moving to the United States from Tokyo, Sharra found an admiration for the beauty of wood and the history of furniture, but was unsure of her ability to make full-size furniture. Sharra has been making miniature furniture that respects the beautiful details of the original craftsman’s techniques.

Sharra is one of more than sixty artists participating in Miniature Masterworks, September 15-17, 2017.

Miniature Masterworks: Nell Corkin

Nell Corkin creates original, landscaped buildings in 1:144 scale. Her first miniature was a shoebox house made at the age of five. In the 1980s, she made her first 1:144 scale building during her lunch breaks as a professional model maker for a motion picture studio. She has worked exclusively in the scale ever since.

Corkin is one of more than sixty artists participating in Miniature Masterworks, September 15-17, 2017. She will be giving a gallery talk about her work in the T/m collection and the inspiration behind it on September 17 at 10:30am.

Miniature Masterworks: Brooke Rothshank

Brooke Rothshank is a children’s book illustrator and fine-scale miniature painter. Her subject matter, painted in watercolor or egg tempera, is often influenced by what is happening in her life. She equates her work to a visual journal; in 2015, she did a miniature painting every single day for the entire year.

Rothshank is one of more than sixty artists participating in Miniature Masterworks, September 15-17, 2017.

Miniature Masterworks: Nancy Simpson

Nancy Simpson experimented with many different crafts before finding her signature: Nantucket and Shaker baskets. Simpson forms her baskets on models that she turns herself using the same materials found in full-scale baskets: hardwood, cane, brass, and ivory. Now, she is beginning to experiment with original designs in the style of Nantucket and Shaker baskets.

Simpson is one of more than sixty artists participating in Miniature Masterworks, September 15-17, 2017.
